Yamato Guesthouse, Siem Reap

June 2007. We originally intended to stay at Jasmine Lodge but they raised their prices, so we had to move on. A few steps east of Jasmine is a Japanese owned Yamato Guesthouse. Our double fan room was $4US/night. Double bed, bathroom, cable TV, DVD player and free rental of DVDs from their stash. The only downside to this place was the rusty water.
Our 4-night stay at Yamato Guesthouse seemed to be a loss to them, perhaps because we didn't use their other services. So when I asked for a 5th night, they explained that they had made a mistake on the price, and instead of $4, it would now be $6. We chose to move out and and look elsewhere.
Apsara Angkor Guesthouse, Siem Reap

June 2007. Beside Yamato, in a small alley is Apsara Angkor Guesthouse. Our double fan room was $3US/night, with a double bed and shared bathroom. If you wish to stay longer or when mosquitoes and poorly-maintained bathroom become an annoyance, immediately upgrade to $5 rooms... or relocate. Oh, and a mouse chewed through the pocket of my new backpack.
