Mountain - 113m/371' |
March 23, 2006. After
our trip to Seokmo Island,
I went back to the mountain I first intended to climb.
The trailhead for this hike is through Jeondeungsa Temple.
(1) At the start of the hike, I came accross this pool
of cairns... Koreans sure do love to build them. From
this point, trails are clearly marked. |
|

(1) At the first summit, I already had a great view looking
down to the Temple and a lot of small islands to the south.
Not bad for a 10-minute hike up. The trails here are already
hip deep, this place must be very popular to hikers.
(2) I went to the true summit after a short rest to take a better
look at the Yellow Sea and more islands. |
 (1)
Another 10 minutes and you'll be at the true summit. These were
the only people I saw on this mountain, I guess I was lucky
to have this quiet hike.
(2) This small mountain has three summits, the middle being
the highest. The hike to the third summit is what I like the
best. The view is better and I liked the idea of hiking along
this wall. Another 10 minutes is all it takes. |
 (1)
I ended up on the other side of the Temple at this point. After
visiting the fire lookout at the farther north end of the third
summit, I started descending towards the Temples and I noticed
another trail.
(2) I thought of doing some more hiking but I was stopped by
this sign... it was nice enough to be printed in english too.
Now I learned another important sign in Korean (red characters). |

| Jeondeungsa
Temple |
This temple is small and compact but it's the most famous
and important temple in Ganghwa-Do. It is also one of
the oldest temples in Korea. When its windy, these chimes
fill the area with a very eerie sound. |
